Texans Funding Islamic Prayer and Shariah in Public Schools
By Carole Hornsby Haynes April 28, 2026
While Texas parents fight boards of education over reading, math, and the right to know what their children are being taught, the Muslim Brotherhood’s youth organization, the Muslim Student Association (MSA), is subversively using public schools as recruitment centers for Shariah and Islamic supremacy.
Since the mid-1970s, there has been an ongoing infusion of billions of Arab petro-dollars into the infrastructure of American education to change public opinion toward Islam and to influence U.S. foreign policy, specifically toward Israel. The project began with colleges in the mid-1970s and then K-12 in the 1990s with Saudi Arabia providing the initial funding.
Decades ago, the MSA was entrenched on university campuses nationwide to operate as the primary vehicle for advancing Muslim Brotherhood influence. Now it has expanded aggressively into public high schools and middle schools under the guise of a support network for Muslim students.
The MSA was founded in 1963 by members of the Muslim Brotherhood, which has been designated a terrorist organization by many countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates. The global Islamic foundation also spawned Hamas, Al-Qaeda, and other radical organizations. MSA’s mission is to foster personal development (tarbiyyah), and proselytize about Islam (da’wah). Since its founding, the MSA has grown into “the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America.”
Patrick Poole, an anti-terrorism consultant to law enforcement and the military, notes that,
“One of the darkest secrets of the MSA, certainly never advertised by the organization or mentioned in their publications, is a rather lengthy list of top MSA leaders who have been arrested and convicted on a wide array of terrorism charges, ranging from material support of terrorist groups to being actively involved in terrorist plots.
It is important to stress that these are not fringe figures in the MSA organization, but some of its top leaders.”
Given the shocking list of top MSA leaders who are involved in terror plots and activity, counterterrorism authorities denounce the MSA as a “radicalization incubator.”
To school officials and parents, the MSA alleges that it is a faith-based, inclusive student club. In reality, it is a religious-political recruitment pipeline to attract non-Muslims and the vehicle to normalize Shrariah practices in public schools.
In recent months, aggressive Islamic activity at several Texas public schools has been reported in the news media.
Wylie East High School
Four Muslim women from the ICNA-linked “Why Islam” group set up an unauthorized World Hijab Day table at Wylie East High School in north Texas, handing out Qurans, hijabs, Shariah brochures, and candy to students. This was clearly an effort to proselytize and push Islam.
With the eruption of public outrage, the school administration professed not to have any prior knowledge of the event, claiming it was a procedural snafu with the club not submitting the required forms. However, the table was sponsored by the school’s SMA chapter. Prior to the event, the MSA posted on social media that it was sponsoring a “World Hijab Day” booth on Monday over lunch.
Apparently school administration is supportive of the Islamic indoctrination. In February 2025, the Wylie East Principal Tiffany Doolan posted an image on Instagram of herself wearing a hijab on campus as part of last year’s World Hijab Day celebration organized by MSA students. “I LOVED this experience!”
Some Wylie parents and staff believe the district is applying a double standard to Christianity versus Islam. Michael Schwerin, a parent in Wylie ISD, posted to social media, “As a parent in Wylie ISD, I can guarantee that they are trying to let it blow over. Teachers and staff have been told to remove bibles and crosses from their offices and classrooms. But THIS is ok?”
Parents are asking questions but still have no answers. Why were members of Why Islam? Who were carrying boxes of materials allowed to walk through the school’s front-office check-in system? Why did no adult report that the Muslim group was setting up a display table in a busy area near the office and school cafeteria?
Questions for Texas parents
-
Why did the school administration allow Muslims to hand out proselytizing matrials but bans Bibles and crosses from school offices and classrooms?
-
Why was the MSA allowed to set up a “World Hijab Day” booth during school hours?
Humble ISD
Taxpayer-funded school buses took more than 30 students on a field trip from Kingwood and Atascocita High Schools in Humble ISD to the in Houston. The students left after the second period and returned at the end of the school day. They had lunch at halal food trucks, a midday prayer, a tour, and a presentation by the center.
The center notoriously rebrands the 800 years of Islamic subjugation of Spain as a “golden age” of tolerance. In reality, the Muslim conquest brought centuries of massacres, slavery, forced conversions, and systemic oppression. Christians and Jews were reduced to second-class citizens forced to pay the humiliating jizya tax, watch their churches turned into mosques, and live under Sharia apartheid.
The center tells Latino students that their real roots are in Muslim Spain, not in Latin America, and that they are returning home.
The center’s supporters include some of the most radical, Muslim Brotherhood-connected leaders in American Islam -- Yasir Qadhi, Siraj Wahhaj, and Azhar Azeez.
Each of the two Humble ISD schools has an MSA chapter. It was the MSA that helped to organize the field trip to the Islamic center. It was the MSA that, during Ramadan, hosted a school-wide teacher appreciation dinner in the cafeteria for the community.
The Kingwood MSA’s mission statement on its website is clear about its proselytizing activities on public school campuses. Its purpose is to “educate the community about Islam,” facilitate on-campus prayer during school hours, host study circles that focus on the Quran and Islam teachings, host speakers from CAIR (designated by Texas Governor Abbott as a terrorist organization), and organize field trips to mosques and Islamic events.
Questions for Texas parents
Humble ISD is knowingly allowing Islamic grooming and da’wah recruitment under the guise of “diversity education” at taxpayer expense.
-
Would Christian organizations be allowed to become entrenched in school activities as the MSA has?
-
Would Christian students be allowed to have prayer during the school day?
-
Would Christian students be allowed to make taxpayer funded field trips to churches? Or Jews to synagoguges?
-
Would school administration allow Christians to host a teacher appreciation dinner during Easter?
-
Would a Christian speaker be allowed to come to the schools to discuss the Bible and its teachings?
Mesquite ISD
One of the largest mosques in East Dallas, the Mesquite Islamic Center (MIC), is expanding its outreach into taxpayer funded schools. Incrementally, it is implementing the Muslim Brotherhood’s blueprint for civilizational jihad of student clubs, public platforms and government silence. Civilizational jihad is the stealth undermining of Western institutions and culture by Islamist organizations.
As an outreach arm of the mosque for religious recruitment, the MSA is operating in Mesquite Independent School District high schools. Two schools near the MIC – Poteet High School and Vanguard High School-- host active MSA chapters.
Those at the mosque promote outreach activities as benign. But their purpose is not. Da’wah is not simply inviting non-Muslims to convert. Islam requires that non-believers be educated before waging war on them.
“The caliph makes war upon Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians provided he has first invited them to enter Islam in faith and practice… and the war continues until they become Muslim or else pay the non-Muslim poll tax (jizya).
Vanguard High School’s Facebook page promoted an MSA event, “What Is Islam,” “to learn about the core beliefs, values, and traditions of Islam.” The event was to be held in a public school classroom and sponsored by a school staff member."
At Poteet High School, the MSA’s Instagram account invited students to attend the speech in the school library by Ustadh Ahmad Hajir, the Youth Director of the Mesquite Islamic Center, about “The Importance of Ramadan.” The event included snacks, refreshments, and direct religious instruction.
On the day before Ramadan, two Muslim students affiliated with the MSA were allowed to use the school PA system to invite the entire student body to attend Friday night prayers at the mosque. This was not a simple social invitation. It was Islamic proselytizing during school hours at a taxpayer funded school.
Questions for Texas parents
-
Why was the Mesquite Islamic Center Youth Director allowed to come into the schools for religious events without public oversight?
-
Would the school allow Christian or Jewish leaders to come to the schools for religious events?
-
Would the school allow Christian students to use the school’s PA system to invite students to Sunday School and church?
-
Would Jewish students be allowed to invite the students to attend synagoguge for Shabbat?
-
Would other faiths be allowed to invite the student body to their religious events?
-
Why are public schools being used as vehicles for religious recruitment under the radar and with school administrators’ approval?
There has been no response from the SPLC or the ACLU. We can bet, if other religious groups were allowed to use the school intercom for their religious message, that CAIR, the SPLC, and the ACLU would gin up hatred across the airwaves and social media.
Conclusion
It is way past time for the Muslim Student Association to be banned from all Texas public schools. As noted above, it is the youth organization for the Muslim Brotherhood this is tasked with using public schools as recruitment centers for Shariah and Islamic supremacy.
Governor Greg Abbott has designated the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR as terrorist organizations. Therefore, Texas leadership has an obligation to warn public schools that they must ban the MSA from their schools immediately. Failure to do so should result in penalites – firing of school administrators and/or loss of public funding.
Some are questioning why Christians are upset over the handout of Qurans, hijabs, and Shariah brochures, while the Ten Commandments are posted in classrooms.
This indicates the sorry state of American knowledge about the founding of the United States and Judeo-Chrisitian values as the basis for our Constitution. Shariah -- Islamic law -- is totally incompatible with our Constitution and our Judeo-Christian values.
Students are never told the truth about the barbaric Islam or its cruel treatment of women. They learn only a romanticized story about Islam. Teachers who proselytize for Islam in public classrooms should be held accountable and face penalties for non-compliance.
For those who believe all religions should have equal representation in American textbooks, what Middle Eastern country would allow Christians to have any mention in their student textbooks?
Why are Americans expected to accommodate an enemy that wants to takeover our government and our way of life? Why should we be expected to apologize because we refuse to allow enemies within our borders?
Parents are fleeing public schools over the radical left indoctrination that has supplanted academic learning. If Islam is allowed to continue its aggressive influence, there will be an even greater reason for parents to abandon the public schools. Yet this will hand Muslims the victory they want. They will have control over the minds of all future generations who will be brainwashed to hate America and want to see Shariah as the law of the land.
Texans must become as aggressive at abolishing Islamic terrorist organizations and their leaders from Texas as Muslims are in their determination to overthrow the United States. This will require more than laws which, too often, have no enforcement mechanism. Even so, Muslims are not going to obey our laws because they consider them inferior to Shariah.
Texas is a pivotal state. “As Texas goes, so goes the nation.” We are literally in a war for our freedom and even our survival. Texas must take the lead if this war is to be won.
What You Can Do
1. Email and call Governor Abbot and the Texas Education Agency to alert them about how public schools are willfully allowing Islamic indoctrination at taxpayer funded schools. Insist that Muslim Student Association chapters be banned from all public schools.
2. Email and call your Texas State Representative and State Senator about legislation to prevent Islamic indoctrination at taxpayer funded schools. Insist that legislation be passed to ban Muslim Student Association chapters at all public schools. Insist that enforcement mechanisms be included in the legislation.
3. Form parent groups to engage with your local school boards. Demand answers about MSA organized school trips, school prayer, school events, and other forms of religious indoctrination.
4. Hold local events to educate other parents about what is happening in their schools and to build momentum for action.
5. Replace all school administrators, teachers, staff members, and school board members who are supportive of the Islamic indoctrintion.
6. Share this newsletter with others.
