'New Sheriff in Town' Rattles Davos Elites

By Carole Hornsby Haynes     January 22, 2026

For the past week the annual January meeting of the World Economic Forum has been in session in Davos, Switzerland. With Trump as the “new sheriff in town,” the speeches took a radical turn from previous years.  Gone were the buzzwords -- social justice, sustainability. Global elites at the conference appeared to change their tune from pretending to want to improve the world to simply benefiting themselves.

President Trump had already sent a clear message to the globalists just weeks before the WEF summit when he withdrew the United States from 66 global organizations, conventions, and treaties. This included a historic withdrawal from the “international climate regime” under the Paris Agreement, which is built on the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

A press release by the U.S. Department of Commerce was sharply to the point, “We’re not going to Davos to uphold the status quo. We’re going to confront it head-on.” The statement continued, “For far too long, the fate of the global economy has been decided by an international establishment who took America’s economic power and gave it to the rest of the world.” Intent of the U.S. is clear: “Under President Donald Trump’s leadership, we are going in a new direction. This administration is putting America first.”

Carney Admits Globalists Are Losing Support

During a special address at the conference,Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carneygot a standing ovation for starkly describing the end of Pax Americana.

He spoke about a “rupture in the world order” where the United States is “submitted to no limits, no constraints.” Admitting that the global elites are losing support for their world order, he doubled down in his support of world government, calling for the global community to develop new tactics and move forward with a global government that would benefit them rather than the world.

Concerned about the future of Canada and intermediate powers no longer able to depend upon the United States, Carney reminded the global audience that they have the power to “build a new order that encompasses our values, such as respect for human rights, sustainable development, [and] solidarity.” Acknowledging that “the old order is not coming back,” Carney called for allies to join Canada in the creation of a new order that will not have the United States as a major partner.

Carney argued that smaller nations cannot afford to act independently if they hope to survive. It’s vital that globalization succeed if less powerful nations are to have strength against stronger adversarial forces. Only by uniting can they hope to achieve a new order by upholding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He failed to mention that these goals are popular with dictators and abusive goverments.

During his address, he boasted about Canada’s new strategic partnerships with China and Qatar. Later in the week, he went to China for a “friendly” visit during which he declared a new order and praised the “leadership of President Xi Jinping.”

This is further evidence that Trump was right to withdraw the Unitd States from the dozens of globalist organizations.

Fink AcknowledgeDavos Is In Trouble

BlackRock CEO and interim co-chair of the WEF, Larry Finkappeared to many to be more interested in making the event a business conference to discuss new tactics for moving forward.

He opened the meeting with a blunt acknowledgment that Davos — and the economic system it represents — is facing a crisis of legitimacy and relevance in an age of populism and deep institutional distrust. He warned that global capitalism is losing public trust because prosperity has left too many people behind. He said success must be measured not just by growth or markets, but by whether people can “see it, touch it, and build a future on it.” He warned that global “elites” have totally lost public trust after the disastrous handling of theCovid-19 “pandemic.” He cautioned, “If the World Economic Forum is going to be useful going forward, it has to regain that trust.”

Lutnik Torches Globalization

During a panel discussion on international trade, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick declared, “The Trump Administration and myself, we are here to make a very clear point — globalization has failed the West and the United States of America. It’s a failed policy. It is what the WEF has stood for, which is export, offshore, far-shore, find the cheapest labor in the world and the world is a better place for it.”

He added, The fact is it has left America behind. It has left the American workers behind. And what we are here to say is ‘America First’ is a different model, one that we encourage other countries to consider, which is that our workers come first.”

He went on to excoriate foreign leaders, “Why are you going to do solar and wind? Why would Europe agree to be net zero in 2030 when they don’t make a battery? They don’t make a battery…So if they go 2030, they are deciding to be subservient to China, who makes the batteries.”

Reclaiming National Sovereignty

Globalists will always be enemies of the United States. They will never cease trying to weaken the United States for their own control and enrichment. The solution is for the United States to totally withdraw from the United Nations and put Americans first.
