The United States spends more on K-12 education than almost any other nation in the world and yet our students are performing poorly on tests.

This week the 2017 National Assessment of Educational Progress test results in mathematics and reading were published. These are tests that have been funded by Congress since the late 1960s and early 1970s and required for all 50 states as part of No Child Left Behind. Called the nation’s “Report Card,” NAEP tests must be given at least every two years to a stratified random sample of students at specific grade levels (4, 8, and upper high school).

It’s quite common nowadays to hear liberals and even uninformed conservatives call America a democracy. Yet we are neither a democracy nor a representative democracy.

By definition, in a democracy what the majority feels is the rule. The Founders described this scenario as “mobocracy.” Contrast that with a republic where the general population elects representatives who pass laws. The nation is governed by rule of law, not what the majority feels at a given moment.

Thousands of Android Apps Track Children, Break Federal Law

Thousands of free Android educational apps available in the Google Play store are tracking children in violation of a major federal data-privacy law, exposing kids to targeted ads and automatic profiling.

The study, “Won’t Somebody Think of the Children,” was published in the scholarly journal, Proceedings on Privacy Enhancing Technologies. The researchers say the problems are rampant and parents are provided a privacy analysis of each app, including the popular Google Classroom and Khan Academy.

Texas taxpayers are shelling out $11 billion each year to support 1.9 million illegal aliens, the second largest illegal population in the nation. Texans are also supporting 625,000 of their U.S. born children with 537,000 of these attending local schools.

The tab to Texans is $4,429 for each illegal alien which places a heavy burden of $1,231 on each household.

Education: $8 billion

States are forced to educate illegal aliens and their children, refugees, and legal immigrant students through an unfunded federal mandate as required by the Plyler v. Doe Supreme Court decision in 1982.
